Weather Report From Chong Khae at 4 PM

To the east, roiling energy thermals
blast titanium white mushroom clouds
into the stratosphere as if the gods
themselves have started a nuclear war.

To the north, the sky is empty
and as blue as a Scandinavian’s eye.

To the west, black-bottom rain clouds
squeeze the horizon into a claustrophobic,
ever smaller, darker line of land.

To the south, thin, over riding white
clouds seem to spin at their eastern tips
like foamless soap down an unseen drain.

And across my flat cement pad, I have
noticed that the commuter trains of ants
that usually rocket from the fence to the
house foundation are not running today.
Only a few lost souls seem to float in
vague circles down there like someone
seeing stars.  It’s hot.

Now back to you and the real news.
