Old Age

The opposite of old age is fun.

The opposite of fun is fear.

The opposite of fear is hope,

and the synonym for hope is

memory which like a small

bird perches on a limb waiting

for something that can never

be expressed . . . and sings.

Now, for the first time in my

long life  I can hear birdsong

and I am transfixed.
