The Recycler Next Door

In the tall grass are a dozen or so
picture tubes that have no value
as junk, so he lines them up carefully
on the boundary land between us.
The chassis, cabinet, and TV guts
he has long ago stripped and sold on,
but these gourd-like tubes, shaped
like over sized Hershey kisses, seem
more like produce he has gathered in
than things he means to thrown away.
Beauty hides in plain sight and I wonder
how many hours or decades humans
watched the now down-turned, flat faces
in the grass unaware of the beautiful shape
that would appear only after their set’s total
