The Recycler Next Door

Everything in the Recycler’s yard
has been touched by human kind
in some way or another, but nothing
more intimately than the growing
mounds of plastic water bottles
that form miniature mountains
which walk toward his front door.
Once pressed to lips in passionate
kisses to quench bodily needs
these empties now fall over
one another like a prophetic vision
of sinful bodies being sucked
down to the lower circles of hell.
They are the gray color of static
when a TV station went off the
air with anthems and prayers.
Few living today can remember
such a color, but I do, and
it was beautiful.

Metaphor, thy name lives in the
things we throw away.
