At four in the afternoon

At four in the afternoon
while I sit outside waiting for rain
which may or may not come I nurse
a Chang beer or maybe it nurses me,
but I feel something let down inside
of me. Language drains away and
leaves me without words in a world
I have come to love.

I’ve been watching some TED talks on the nature of consciousness.  The one thing I didn’t hear was the connection between language and consciousness.  Language is a virus from outer space.  But take language away and there would still be poetry.  That’s my contribution to the topic.
